If there’s 3000 sales combined but the top two listings have, you know, 2500 of that sales. That means the sales aren’t very well spread out, that means that unless you’re in the top one or two position, you’re not going to get many sales at all. So what we want to see is that the sales are fairly well distributed amongst that top 10.
I created my own brand but it does not allow me to sell by FBA it wants some parenting, so I picked an item already listed on Amazon, stepped as you`re describing, now just waiting for details from supplier. So you see by ranking or appearing on these search term pages is how customers discover you and how you get sales. A brand new listing, like yours, is probably going to be on page 20 or 50 and never get seen by the customers.
Even without all the horror stories, you should be diverting some of your time/money/effort into building your own web store, brand, or whatever. Who wants to be completely reliant on a third party for all of their success? That’s just asking for trouble!
Many women at Amazon attribute its gender gap — unlike Facebook, Google or Walmart, it does not currently have a single woman on its top leadership team — to its competition-and-elimination system. Several former high-level female executives, and other women participating in a recent internal Amazon online discussion that was shared with The New York Times, said they believed that some of the leadership principles worked to their disadvantage. They said they could lose out in promotions because of intangible criteria like “earn trust” (principle No. 10) or the emphasis on disagreeing with colleagues. A word about corporate cultures: for better or for worse, they are enduring, stable, hard to change. They can be a source of advantage or disadvantage. You can write down your corporate culture, but when you do so, you’re discovering it, uncovering it — not creating it. It is created slowly over time by the people and by events — by the stories of past success and failure that become a deep part of the company lore. If it’s a distinctive culture, it will fit certain people like a custom-made glove. The reason cultures are so stable in time is because people self-select. Someone energized by competitive zeal may select and be happy in one culture, while someone who loves to pioneer and invent may choose another. The world, thankfully, is full of many high-performing, highly distinctive corporate cultures. We never claim that our approach is the right one — just that it’s ours — and over the last two decades, we’ve collected a large group of like-minded people. Folks who find our approach energizing and meaningful.
I have experienced this first hand. I have changed my strategy multiple times to find items they don’t sell. I am seriously considering pulling the plug on my biz there for stuff like this and many other issues.

Analysts found that products like Prime compel consumers to make more online and offline purchases from Amazon in the future. Third party sales constitutes for 40 percent of Amazon’s unit sales and the vendor fees collected account for 20 percent of total revenue. Amazon currently has more than two million third party seller accounts. The actual revenue that Amazon collects may actually be higher than what it reportedly generates since gross value is not disclosed.
As Amazon grew, its share price growth enabled partnership or acquisition with a range of companies in different sectors. Marcus (2004) describes how Amazon partnered with Drugstore.com (pharmacy), Living.com (furniture), Pets.com (pet supplies), Wineshopper.com (wines), HomeGrocer.com (groceries), Sothebys.com (auctions) and Kozmo.com (urban home delivery). In most cases, Amazon purchased an equity stake in these partners, so that it would share in their prosperity. It also charged them fees for placements on the Amazon site to promote and drive traffic to their sites. Similarly, Amazon charged publishers for prime-position to promote books on its site which caused an initial hue-and-cry, but this abated when it was realised that paying for prominent placements was widespread in traditional booksellers and supermarkets. Many of these new online companies failed in 1999 and 2000, but Amazon had covered the potential for growth and was not pulled down by these partners, even though for some such as Pets.com it had an investment of 50%.

Often touted as the largest online retailer in the world, Amazon operates under a business model with many moving parts.  First and foremost, the company sells goods directly. A percentage of products are offered to buyers through Amazon’s online storefront with a small markup, and inventory is kept in the company’s large network of warehouses. Only Professional Sellers can apply to be allowed to list and sell in 10 or so categories of products that are currently gated on Amazon. These categories include Clothing, Shoes, Jewelry/Watches, Beauty, Collectibles, Automotive, and Video.
The seller account is required in order to use the scanning apps I mentioned previously.  I know it may feel like jumping the gun since you haven’t found anything to sell yet, but it’s a catch-22 in this case.
