Prime doesn’t just lift $99 off of regular Amazon users each year—it’s proven to be a powerful customer loyalty program. The average Prime user spends $1,300 each year on the site, with 78% of Prime users still citing free 2-day shipping as the main reason for coughing up the fee.
At last count, Amazon’s delivery infrastructure included more than 180 warehouses, 28 sorting centers, 59 local package delivery stations, and 65 hubs for its two-hour Prime Now deliveries. Investment bank Piper Jaffray estimates that 44% of the US population lives within 20 miles of an Amazon warehouse or delivery station. My Amazon review of a woodstove blower fan was also taken down for mysterious reason, apparently I had “violated their policy guidelines” despite stating the simple facts, ie, “product not as described”, “product did not match pictures in the adervertisement”, “product did not fit the application”, etc. Nothing negative, just points that revealed it was the wrong product. It has just been quicker in responding to changes that the rest of the work world is now experiencing: data that allows individual performance to be measured continuously, come-and-go relationships between employers and employees, and global competition in which empires rise and fall overnight. Amazon is in the vanguard of where technology wants to take the modern office: more nimble and more productive, but harsher and less forgiving.

KHAN: So the post office is losing money through doing business with Amazon. There was a recent report by Citigroup that estimated that – right now, basically, the post office charges Amazon around $2.00 per package, and Citigroup estimated that a more accurate cost estimate would be something like 41 percent greater. I think the fact that, you know, Amazon is able to do business at very favorable terms to Amazon and to terms that the post office is losing money on, there is truth to that.
6. Focus: Perhaps most important of all, you have to learn to focus on the right things to get the right results. This is a business. This is YOUR business. You’re not here to play around. You’re here to create value and sell that value to the right people. And above all you have to work on YOUR business not in your business.
