Your blogs should have clearly definable, helpful topics. They should not read like sales pitches; you have other methods (like email) that are much more effective for selling. Instead, use blog posts to share newsworthy topics, or provide an expert’s insight with simple-yet-knowledgeable how-to guides. Blogs that get conversations started or that show readers how to do something will always get more traction and clicks than ones that sound like they’re selling something.
I’ve used Hootsuite for posting updates to social networks and reviewing what others are saying for nearly five years now after using Tweetdeck back in the day – Twitter killed that one off for general use. Hootsuite seems to be comfortably the most popular free tool for posting and reviewing social media updates, but many still don’t know it, it can be used as a personal social media management tool too. It enables you to quickly post to all the main social networks including Google+ company pages and review conversations and messages. I’ve trialled many paid tools, but none come close. The paid version is worthwhile IMO for adding campaign tracking and extra reports.
Susan’s Little Known Social Media Secret: Set up private lists in Twitter (or Circles in Google+) to read and keep up with movers and shakers in your industry, analysts, influencers and interesting people that you want to engage. This will enable you to focus and prioritize where you spend your time online. If you’re managing a brand, this practice will help you identify negative or positive situations faster and get a real-time pulse on the activities as they develop, which allows you to quickly catch and correct any misinformation. Also, this way you can immediately engage your audience and shape the story as it emerges online.
It used to be that Google AdPlanner was unbeatable for comparing audience size and dimension. That’s been folded into AdWords as the Campaign Planner and now limited to media sites, but still useful for finding size and quality of audience for partner and media sites and don’t forget about the related Google Placement Targeting Tool useful for remarketing and research.

Sponsoring major events and community activities serve as promotional opportunities for companies as well. Small businesses often gain public favor by active involvement in local events. With search still driving the majority of visits, leads and sales for most businesses online, I believe that even marketers who outsource their SEO need to understand different types of customer behaviour when searching to help develop strategies for getting visibility AND creating content and messages to help meet consumer needs.

As already stated, thanks for creating this informative post. It took me a few days to read through and then to check out all the links. I’ve pinned to pinterest one of Blue Glass’s blog post to read later, about working Google+. So hey, there you go pinterest is a great social network, I use it instead of bookmarking. Did not know about twitter’s @name not showing up, thanks Ekaterina. Also, having been introduced to so many previously unknown social media helps, I may slowly integrate some into my toolbox. And, it seemed natural for me because I do like to read my tweets, blogs I follow, and facebook friends posts, to work it slowly, as Kristi mentioned.
Video advertising – This type of advertising in terms of digital/online means are advertisements that play on online videos e.g. YouTube videos. This type of marketing has seen an increase in popularity over time. Online Video Advertising usually consists of three types: Pre-Roll advertisements which play before the video is watched, Mid-Roll advertisements which play during the video, or Post-Roll advertisements which play after the video is watched. Post-roll advertisements were shown to have better brand recognition in relation to the other types, where-as “ad-context congruity/incongruity plays an important role in reinforcing ad memorability”. Due to selective attention from viewers, there is the likelihood that the message may not be received. The main advantage of video advertising is that it disrupts the viewing experience of the video and therefore there is a difficulty in attempting to avoid them. How a consumer interacts with online video advertising can come down to three stages: Pre attention, attention, and behavioural decision. These online advertisements give the brand/business options and choices. These consist of length, position, adjacent video content which all directly affect the effectiveness of the produced advertisement time, therefore manipulating these variables will yield different results. Length of the advertisement has shown to affect memorability where-as longer duration resulted in increased brand recognition. This type of advertising, due to its nature of interruption of the viewer, it is likely that the consumer may feel as if their experience is being interrupted or invaded, creating negative perception of the brand. These advertisements are also available to be shared by the viewers, adding to the attractiveness of this platform. Sharing these videos can be equated to the online version of word by mouth marketing, extending number of people reached. Sharing videos creates six different outcomes: these being “pleasure, affection, inclusion, escape, relaxation, and control”. As well, videos that have entertainment value are more likely to be shared, yet pleasure is the strongest motivator to pass videos on. Creating a ‘viral’ trend from mass amount of a brands advertisement can maximize the outcome of an online video advert whether it be positive or a negative outcome.
Clearly a huge challenge is the sheer number of tools which vary enormously in cost and quality. To further complicate the landscape. New challenger tools can often do a better job than the established tools.

Conversion Rate: This is very straightforward. It reflects the number of visitors who perform a specific action on a page that converts into a lead for you. Why is this important? If you have an action you want users to perform (buy something, book something, download an item, or fill out a form), the conversion rate tells you how effective each of your pages is in leading users to complete that action.
Drip marketing can be used as a function of the lead generation and qualification process. Specifically, drip marketing constitutes an automated follow-up method that can augment or replace personal lead follow-up. Invented in 1992 by Bill Persteiner and Jim Cecil also known as Action Plans first introduced in software called WinSales Often called Autoresponders, new leads are automatically enrolled into a drip marketing campaign with messaging relevant to the call-to-action from which the lead came. This is also known as lead nurturing.
