Such a great post. Amazon is getting flooded with a lot of unscrupulous sellers from all over the world looking to make a quick buck. It can be a tremendous pain trying to deal with all of that. And the bigger you get on Amazon, the more issues you run into. Amazon staff is quite responsive in resolving issues in our experience, but we did experience our own horror story once when a hot selling item was inexplicably delisted due to customer complaints. Turns out Amazon was taking returned items and putting them back into regular inventory without properly checking for damage. So customers were receiving used and damaged products when they were expecting something brand new. Amazon of course is aware of stuff like this but they’re much more likely to protect buyers.
When Amazon entered the ebook market in the late 2000s, Bezos priced bestsellers at $9.99, a significant discount to what new hardcover books typically sold for. The tactic drove customers away from traditional publishers and helped Amazon gain a controlling share of online book sales. The need for efficiency has also brought a keen interest in robotics: Amazon purchased Kiva Systems, a company that makes robots for warehouses, in 2012 for $775 million. The robots—flat, motorized squares at move in a grid—retrieve shelves from which humans pick items that people have ordered. Sea freight: The standard lead time for shipments by cargo ship tend to be 21 days from port to port. Are you able to sell items that don’t have a UPC code? For example: I have jewelry inventory from my previous jewelry business that I bought from numerous vendors. Many pieces I do not know the UPS code nor the manufacturer. Is this allowed on Amazon?

From the start, Sears’s genius was to market itself to consumers as an everything store, with an unrivaled range of products, often sold for minuscule profits. The company’s feel for consumer demand was so uncanny, and its operations so efficient, that it became, for many of its diehard customers, not just the best retail option, but the only one worth considering.
Why do you perfer selling on Amazon over an e-commerce “click funnel” where you sell only a few specific products through funnels on social media platforms? My understanding is that this route provides a higher exposure and higher volume of sales. I’m torn between the two and am at the beginning stages of researching them both. No, you can only add your item to a listing if it’s the same product, an item can have multiple sellers of the exact product, but you can’t list different items under one listing. You’ll want to create your own listing with your product’s name and UPC number, and market it as a better version of the competition. One area where I think we are especially distinctive is failure. I believe we are the best place in the world to fail (we have plenty of practice!), and failure and invention are inseparable twins. To invent you have to experiment, and if you know in advance that it’s going to work, it’s not an experiment. Most large organizations embrace the idea of invention, but are not willing to suffer the string of failed experiments necessary to get there. Outsized returns often come from betting against conventional wisdom, and conventional wisdom is usually right. Given a ten percent chance of a 100 times payoff, you should take that bet every time. But you’re still going to be wrong nine times out of ten. We all know that if you swing for the fences, you’re going to strike out a lot, but you’re also going to hit some home runs. The difference between baseball and business, however, is that baseball has a truncated outcome distribution. When you swing, no matter how well you connect with the ball, the most runs you can get is four. In business, every once in a while, when you step up to the plate, you can score 1,000 runs. This long-tailed distribution of returns is why it’s important to be bold. Big winners pay for so many experiments.
I’ve read bits around your site that there are certain categories that are restricted to sell in. Is there a place on your site where you can lost those, as well as what categories are not restricted at all?
If the we benefit from the Amazon FBA, why do we need labels, tape etc?…Since all that is done for you at the Amazon warehouse as stated? I’m also a single mom and only have about 1 hour to myself a day after putting my kids to sleep. During the day I work and that leaves me almost 11 hours away from home a day. Weekends I have kids crawling all over me, am I a candidate….or not?
The automated search advertising and bidding system for paid search has had a big impact at Amazon. Sponsored links initially done by humans, but this was unsustainable due to range of products at Amazon. The automated programme generates keywords, writes ad creative, determines best landing page, manages bids, measure conversion rates, profit per converted visitor and updates bids. Again the problem of volume is there, Matt Round described how the book ‘How to Make Love Like a Porn Star’ by Jenna Jameson received tens of thousands of clicks from pornography-related searches, but few actually purchased the book. So the update cycle must be quick to avoid large losses.
If you already make something yourself, then you know what you’re going to sell on Amazon. Your biggest challenges are understanding Amazon’s seller fees for handmade goods to make sure you can sell your products profitably and keeping up with production in the lucky event that your product is a hit.
