Yes, Amazon has an Amazon Business platform specifically for business users to shop for business-related items. But since the shopping experience is a bit different on Amazon Business, we thought we’d walk you through it.
Call them what you will, their ranks are rapidly increasing. Amazon is finishing a 37-floor office tower near its South Lake Union campus and building another tower next to it. It plans a third next to that and has space for two more high-rises. By the time the dust settles in three years, Amazon will have enough space for 50,000 employees or so, more than triple what it had as recently as 2013.
Come up with a return plan on how to handle returns, should the need arise. Who will pay the shipment back? Will you reimburse your buyer with the real fees they used to send the unwanted item back? Make sure though, that the money the buyer pays gets refunded. Additional money (through a unbounced check) may be sent to the buyer if you deem it necessary and the buyer agrees and can put your trust into not having a bounced check at any single time.
One common mistake by new Amazon sellers is to unknowingly not collect state tax on the Amazon transaction, and end up having to pay the tax out of pocket. Let’s talk about WHY you would want to sell on Amazon in the first place. This is really important because a lot of people think they can just throw up a website and sell items there instead of on Amazon. This is a mistake because Amazon.com is the largest online retailer.
Amazon does not reveal much about its marketing approach in its annual reports, but there seems to be a focus on online marketing channels. Amazon (2011) states “we direct customers to our websites primarily through a number of targeted online marketing channels, such as our Associates program, sponsored search, portal advertising, email marketing campaigns, and other initiatives”. These other initiatives may include outdoor and TV advertising, but they are not mentioned specifically. In this statement they also highlight the importance of customer loyalty tools. They say: “while costs associated with free shipping are not included in marketing expense, we view free shipping offers and Amazon Prime as effective worldwide marketing tools, and intend to continue offering them indefinitely”.
But, controlling sourcing and branding, allows you to be the true master of the brands you sell. This makes private labeling (by far) the most lucrative and profitable of all the e-commerce business models.
